Hull City

Last updated: Mon 06 August 2018 10:07
In Brief

Hull have had a frustrating summer. Ondrej Mazuch and James Weir injured. Jackson Irvine, Kamil Grosicki, Jordy de Wijs, Reece Burke and Will Keane all doubts.

Looking Back

It has not been the summer that Nigel Adkins wanted. Adkins had helped steer the Tigers to safety last term and had been expected to really strengthen over the summer. So far though it has been disappointing.

Hull have lost Seb Larsson, David Meyler, Michael Dawson and Abel Hernandez, the latter the biggest blow as his goals were crucial. They have not really been replaced despite a series of defensive signings in the shape of Jordy de Wijs, Reece Burke, Eric Lichaj and Todd Kane.

Looking Ahead

Fraizer Campbell has been struggling but is now fit after he played in a friendly at North Ferriby on Monday. But Jackson Irvine is struggling with illness while Kamil Grosicki has had personal issues.

Ondrej Mazuch has missed much of pre-season while James Weir is still out long-term. Will Keane remains another doubt for this match.

Points of Interest

Hull were poor at home last season winning just seven, drawing eight and losing eight.

Aston Villa

Last updated: Mon 06 August 2018 10:08
In Brief

Aston Villa have had a difficult summer due to money worries, have now been taken over but have yet to sign anyone. Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan doubtful. Finally make first signing in shape of Andre Moreira.

Looking Back

It has been a summer of complete struggle for Aston Villa. After the failure to win the play-off final, financial problems really disrupted Villa. John Terry left the club and they were unable to sign a series of loan players who were crucial last season.

Eventually Villa were taken over in late July but the takeover appears too late to change much before the season starts and they appear severely underprepared.

Villa though have finally made their first signing in the shape of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Andre Moreira on loan. You would suggest that he will be a certain starter.

Looking Ahead

Villa have injury doubts over a pair of strikers in Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan but no long-term absentees.

This is a big game for Steve Bruce, who has born the brunt of Villa's problems over the summer. Bruce is a former Hull manager and this is a fixture close to his heart.

Points of Interest

Villa won 10 times on the road last term with four draws and nine losses. Both matches between these two sides finished in draws last term.
