In Brief

Mixed emotions at end of last season. Playing final friendly on Wednesday. No major new signings made. Clyne and Mane set to miss. Shaqiri and Keita could return. Alisson, Salah and Firmino lacking fitness, but also likely to feature.

Looking Back

Liverpool set to finish pre-season preparations with game vs. Lyon on Wednesday night.

After missing out on domestic title to extend wait for Premier League trophy to 30 years Reds won Champions League and at the end of what was the team’s best season in modern history they at least lifted silverware.

Looking Ahead

Coach Klopp hasn’t made any major new signings and not expected to do so, with Liverpool going into the new season with what they have.

Mane will miss match after busy summer with Senegal, while Alisson, Salah and Firmino back in training, but also coming after extended holidays and not 100% fit. All 3 of them involved in Wednesday friendly though.

Shaqiri and Keita likely to be passed fit after recent injuries, but Clyne set for months of absence due to ACL.

Points of Interest

Won 4 of last 6 matches between sides, but last season earned single point from 2 league meetings.

Manager Comments

"We’ll see who is really fit. We’ll make a squad for the game, not for the season."

In Brief

Collected all 4 domestic trophies last season. Added Rodri to already impressive squad. Mendy and Mahrez set to miss. Ederson, Otamendi, Aguero and Jesus lacking fitness. Laporte and Danilo could miss.

Looking Back

City spent summer months in Asia where 3 big wins and penalty shootout defeat vs. Wolves were registered.

After back-to-back historic seasons and all 4 domestic trophies collected last term Citizens will be challenged to find motivation on domestic stage for another year.

Arrival of new left-back and the big money spent on Rodri strengthened the impressive squad even more, with latter seen as like-for-like replacement for the aging now Fernandinho.

Looking Ahead

Coach Guardiola not sure if he will be using any of Ederson, Otamendi, Aguero and Jesus. They all played in Copa America and after extended holidays still lack fitness. If last 2 don’t play Sterling will lead attack.

Mendy sidelined again, while Fernandinho given longer holiday and still away. Mahrez only just returned after holiday too.

Laporte has picked up knock and might not be risked this weekend. Danilo also not spotted travelling, he is linked with move to Juventus.

Points of Interest

This fifth appearance in Community Shield, won 2 and lost 2 so far.
