In Brief

The post-Ten Hag begins with the Johan Cruijff Schaal against usual rivals of PSV Eindhoven. Ihattaren and Stekelenburger out.

Looking Back

After four years there won't be Erik Ten Hag on the bench, in his place Alfred Schreuder.

The summer transfer market seems to have weakened Godenzonen, many regulars have left. No more Haller up front, nor Mazraoui and Tagliafico on the wings, nor Martinez in the middle of the defense. Wijndal, Bergwijn and Bassey will try not to make them regret.

Looking Ahead

Past season JC Schaal was a complete disaster...thrashed 0-4 by PSV.

Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg didn't take part to last friendly games and should miss also this one.

Mohammed Ihattaren did not join the squad for the camp in Austria as he was the victim of "threats and intimidation".

Points of Interest

Ajax met PSV Eindhoven already 9 times in the Johan Cruijff Schaal winning 5 times. They won 9 times the competition. Overall De Klassieker has been played 82 times in Amsterdam, Ajax have won 44, drawn 13 and lost 25.

Manager Comments

Alfred Schreuder: "Ajax is excellently prepared for the match. I think we have done the maximum, even though there is still a lot to do physically. From day one, not everything will go well. We have to see what goes well and build on that.”

In Brief

Begin life under legendary Van Nistelrooy. Play for Johan Cruyff Schaal against Ajax but must save energies for Champions League qualifiers. Madueke, Vinicius, Vertessen, Boscagli and Mauro jr. out. Ramalho recovered.

Looking Back

Saw coach Schmidt leave and hired legend Van Nistelrooy instead: the latter has only U18 and U21 experience, though.

Key players Gotze and Zahavi left but should have been properly replaced by Til and De Jong.

Preseason was quite disappointing as they defeated BW Lohne and FC Eindhoven (6-0 and 5-0 respecitvely), drew with Cercle Brugge (2-2) and lost to Arminia Bielefeld and Villarreal (0-4 and 1-2). However they closed preparation on a high with 2-1 success over Betis.

Looking Ahead

Did well away last season, with W12 D2 L3, 2.17 goals scored and 1.17 conceded per game.

Aim at getting first triumph in the season but must save energies for midweek Champions League qualifier against Monaco.

Regular centre-back Boscagli is out longterm. Mauro Junior is also absent together with Vinicius. Relevant player Ramalho recovered from injury but should not be ready for a start. Vertessen underwent appendectomy and should sit 2 weeks out.

Savio and Branthwaite are now eligible to play.

Projected starter winger Madueke picked up an ankle injury and should be unavailable until mid-November: he could end up being replaced by young Bakayoko, no starts last season.

Points of Interest

PSV failed to score in 2 out of 6 trips to Ajax in the competition, while they kept 3 clean sheets. In 2 occasions they scored more than 2 goals, while they conceded more once.

Manager Comments

Never thought about Monaco for a moment.

We have prepared well for the battle with Ajax. Of course it always releases something more. It is a competitor and we want to win.
