PSV Eindhoven

In Brief

After three games PSV are already on top of Eredivisie having won all three clashes...now they have also the chance to enter the Champions League main draw, a good chance as they won 3-2 the first leg with Bate Borisov. Thomas out. Lundqvist and Romero should also miss. Rosario recovered.

Looking Back

The first leg at the Barysaŭ-Arėna was amazing, five goals and a fast and spectacular football. The home side dominated the first 35 minutes, they soon took the lead and in the following minutes wasted other good chances to double. The match changed when PSV were allowed a penalty kick taken by Pereiro.

The second 45 minutes were largely dominated by the Dutch side who completed the comeback thanks to Lozano. Two minutes to go the Belarus side drew, but the reaction of Van Bommel players was immediate and led them to score the deserved winning goal.

Looking Ahead

Having started their league with 3 wins in a row, PSV will now concentrate all their energies on the European competition. In addition to a victory, also a draw or even a defeat by one goal and conceding no more than two would project the Boeren to the Champions League main draw.

New Zealander midfielder Ryan Thomas will miss for long because of the break of the knee cruciate ligaments. Ramon Pascal Lundqvist is a longtime injured absentee and should miss again.

Young striker Maxi Romero, missed the last games and is again ruled out.

Luckassen just left to Hertha BSC.

Midfielder Pablo Rosario, who didn't go to Zwolle as injured, now recovered.

Van Bommel should field the usual starting eleven with Rosario in place of Dante Rigo.

Points of Interest

The first leg was the first match between these two teams. In their history PSV only met one Belorussian side, Soligorsk, in the 2014/2015 Europa League, and they won both games played.

BATE Borisov

In Brief

Signevich makes the squad but is a doubt. Gordeychuk is certainly missing while Simovic and Vasiljevic are sidelined.

Looking Back

Played quite well against PSV and pushed them all the way in the first leg of the play-off tie but a late goal for the Dutch side meant the they get a 3:2 win and are on the brink of qualifying. BATE played with some good energy in the first half and did well to score a second equaliser via sub Aleksandr Hleb as well, only to swallow a bitter pillow in the closing stages.

Played against Vitebsk at home in a top-of-the-table clash in the league on Saturday and only a late equaliser from the spot by Igor Stasevich spared them a loss on the day. It was a pretty frustrating day in the office for BATE as they struggled to produce the goods up front and often seemed rather predictable.

Looking Ahead

Heading to the Netherlands with the hope of producing an inspired comeback against PSV as manager Aleksey Baga stuck a defiant tone after the first leg and urged his players to believe in their abilities and give it as good as they got.

Main striker Nikolai Signevich missed the last two games due to a foot injury and he remains a serious doubt for the midweek game but he is named in the squad. Mikhail Gordeychuk is battling with a thigh injury and is not quite ready to play yet. Slobodan Simovic and Nikola Vasiljevic are out for the long term.

Points of Interest

BATE have won both of their away games in the Champions League this season while their only meeting with a Dutch side so far in Europe have been against AZ in 2010, winning 4:1 at home and losing 3:0 away.
