Manchester United

In Brief

Difficult start to the season and badly need a win against a big team. Coming off a dramatic away draw vs. Chelsea. Alexis Sanchez sidelined. Jesse Lingard, Scott McTominay, Diogo Dalot, Marouane Fellaini and Phil Jones also set to miss. Marcus Rashford shrugged off a knock on time.

Looking Back

Man United came from behind on Saturday to very nearly steal an unlikely 2:1 win on their visit to Chelsea, but very deep in stoppage time the hosts equalised and as a result the Red Devils dropped further behind from the top two sides.

In the Champions League United failed to impress in the last round when easily held to a 0:0 home draw by Valencia and after achieving only 5 wins in 12 in all competitions this season the Red Devils don’t seem to be scaring anyone anymore.

Looking Ahead

Coach Mourinho saw the winger he doesn’t like much Martial netting 3 goals in the last 2 Premier League rounds and as the Frenchman is obviously the forward in best form he should be picked from the off for this one.

Rashford has picked up a knock vs. Chelsea, but it proved nothing serious and he is fit and available. McTominay, Lingard, Jones, Dalot and Fellaini continue to train individually though and they are unlikely to feature. Sanchez is definitely missing due to an unspecified problem.

After openly expressing his desire to join Juventus soon Lukaku will be desperate to stop his six-game goal drought against the Italians.

Points of Interest

Despite their struggles United are yet to concede in the Champions League this season. In stark contrast they have kept a single clean sheet in 10 domestic matches so far.

In Brief

10-game winning run came to an end: held to a 1-1 home draw by Genoa. Aiming at a positive result from trip to Manchester United. Spinazzola still out. Khedira, Can and Mandzukic also absent.

Looking Back

Juventus dominated Genoa at home during the whole first half-time, taking the lead early on. Unfortunately for them, though, they failed to kill the match off and this cost them dear. In fact, they seemed to fade away from the match for 30 minutes, in the second half, giving Genoa the chance for equalising. Their final forcing led nowhere.

Cancelo at the moment is one of the best right-backs around and he proved it once again, setting up Juventus goal. Ronaldo keeps scoring and creating dangers but he failed to lead the charge in the second half. Benatia made at least two decisive mistakes after the break. Alex Sandro also holds some responsibilities for Genoa equaliser.

Looking Ahead

Juventus saw the end of their perfect record, 10 wins in a row (8 in the domestic league), and they are now just 4 points above second-placed Napoli in the Serie A.

Juventus are leading the Group H, having beaten both Valencia and Young Boys Bern without conceding any goals. A success against Manchester United on the road would almost certainly give them the qualification to the next round of the competition.

Spinazzola is ineligible.

Khedira sat the last game out due to a muscular problem and he is still unavailable. Mandzukic should sit 15-20 days out due to a muscular problem.

Ronaldo will be back after serving a 1-game ban in week 2.

Can is suffering from a thyroyd nodule and he might have to undergo a surgery because of that: thus, he will miss out too.

For this one, given the limited number of real midfielder, coach Allegri could opt for a 4-4-2 formation, that could turn into a 4-3-3 during the match, with Cuadrado and Bernardeschi on the flanks.

Points of Interest

Juventus have already travelled 6 times to Manchester United: they lost 3 times (1-0 in October 1976; 3-2 in October 1997; 2-1 in February 2003), drew twice (1-1 in April 1984; 1-1 in April 1999) and won only once (1-0 in November 1996).
