In Brief

Best season start in the Eredivisie since 1987/1988: annihilated neopromoted FC Emmen with stunning 6-0 win. In absolute need of a home win against Tottenham Hotspurs. Thomas is still out. Schwaab is back. Romero last played with the junior team. Bergwijn will have to pass a fitness test. Lundqvist is a doubt.

Looking Back

PSV had the easiest of matches at home against FC Emmen. This was the first meeting for the two sides at this level and the technical difference was evident right from the start. Having taken an early lead, PSV scored 3 more times in the first half. After the break, they tried saving some energies for the European duty and they limited themselves to scoring only twice more.

They have not conceded any goals in the last 5 Eredivisie games.

Lozano was the hero of the night, as he scored once and served two assists. De Jong and Pereiro scored one brace each.

Looking Ahead

PSV keep on winning every single game in the Eredivisie: they just triumphed for the 9th game in a row.

PSV are sitting at the bottom of the Group B, having lost to Inter at home and to Barcelona on the road. The clash against against Tottenham is fundamental in order to establish who will sit on the third spot.

The longtime injured Thomas will still be missing out. Isimat-Marin recovered from injury. Schwaab also recovered and returned to the starting eleven: he played and is set to play despite a broken arm. Romero is working on his fitness with the junior team. Lundqvist has been working apart from the group.

Bergwijn will have to pass a fitness test on matchday due to an ankle issue. In case he missed out, Malen would replace him in the attack.

Schwaab should be confirmed in the heart of the defence for the second game in a row after getting injured.

Points of Interest

PSV hosted Tottenham only once in March 2008: they beat the English side 6-5 on penalties in the second leg of a last 16 UEFA Cup fixture.

In Brief

Back-to-back defeats to start the group means that now only a win will do. Economic displays so far, but still built momentum domestically with four consecutive Premier League wins. Jan Vertonghen, Dele Alli, Danny Rose and Vincent Janssen sidelined. Victor Wanyama welcomed back.

Looking Back

Tottenham were very poor defensively when Barcelona paid them a visit in the previous round and after gifting their superior anyway guests two goals Spurs logically lost 2:4. Tottenham also lost 1:2 their opening game vs. Inter and this means that they desperately need back-to-back wins over PSV now.

Kane and many of his teammates that went deep in this summer’s World Cup looked sluggish and tired on several occasions already and despite achieving four consecutive wins in the Premier League the displays haven’t been very good. In fact all of these wins were against sides expected to fight for survival.

Looking Ahead

Coach Pochettino will have to continue playing with four at the back as his best defender Vertonghen will be absent until December. Alli, Rose and Janssen are the other sidelined players.

At least Wanyama recovered quickly from a minor problem picked up while on international duty. Also the fit-again playmaker Eriksen should bring creativity to the displays and more importantly his presence will allow Kane to play again as a typical target-man.

Points of Interest

Despite not playing particularly well so far Tottenham have scored at least one goal in every one of their 12 matches in all competitions and even on a bad day they manage to create good chances.
