In Brief

Having lost unexpected 2 points following the national break, Galatasaray take on their direct rivals Schalke 04 in the group D... Serdar is likely to miss out... Donk and Selcuk are ready...

Looking Back

Following the national break, Galatasaray were planning to overcome the survival contenders Bursa at home, but they needed to score an equalizer in order to escape from a home defeat. Their late efforts were not good enough to maintain their 100% winning home run. At least, they managed to remain at the top of the league.

In Champions League, they are standing in the 3rd plac. On the match day 2, they suffered a narrow defeat on the road agains Porto, but they have really offered a good performance and did not deserve to lose. Everybody knows that their mutual fixtures against Schalke will decide on their future in the group. So the Wednesday clash will be a very important decider.

Looking Ahead

Ahead of the match day 3 fixture, coach Fatih Terim has lots of injury problems. They have been already without the services of Emre Akbaba for a while. Besides him, Henry Onyekuru, who missed the last fixture because of his injury, is still undergoing his treatment. Sinan Gumus will be considered to fill his role.

The weekend clash against Bursa costed them very heavily as three players had to be substituted off after they have picked up injuries. The health team reported that Sofiane Feghouli and Fernando will miss the action. Serdar Aziz also has a few chance to feature. It seems like 18 year old Ozan Kabak will make his CL debut as the partner of Maicon.

Selcuk Inan was also carrying problem. Besides him, Garry Rodrigues, Ryan Donk and Younes Belhanda have some pain on their legs, but they are all ready.

Points of Interest

During 2012/13 season, the two teams have met in the last 16 round and the Lions eliminated the German side. On the other hand, the Lions have not managed to defeat a German side at home in European Cups since 1992.

Schalke

In Brief

Were not incisive enough in defeat to Bremen last time out. Cedric Teuchert injured. Ralf Fährmann and Naldo miss out with minor injuries. Johannes Geis training away from the first team. Bastian Oczipka not yet match fit. Steven Skrzybski close to a return from injury. Benjamin Stambouli is available.

Looking Back

Schalke played well against Bremen at the weekend, but failed to make use of their chances and ended up losing.

Schalke start the round of matches with four points after two very good performances in the opening two group matches.

In the league so far this season Schalke have lost every game they have gone behind in. The big problem is the lack of scoring and there will be strong emphasis on the likes of Guido Burgstaller to try and find some form. Schalke have tried to keep things tight at the back and aim to win with just a single goal. Before the weekend loss they had 3 clean sheets in a row.

Looking Ahead

German under 21 striker Cedric Teuchert is out injured and will not be part of the travelling squad for this match.

In addition starting goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann will also miss out after picking up a groin injury before the match against Bremen. That will mean young goalkeeper Alexander Nübel will start again and U19 keeper Yannic Lenze is with the squad. Naldo has also withdrawn from the squad meaning Matija Nastasic will likely start.

Full back Bastian Oczipka is also not yet ready to play in the first team again, although he is in training again and is very close.

Steven Skrzybski remains a doubt to feature as he returns from injury, but could still be an option.

Benjamin Stambouli is fully fit again and with Naldo missing out he may even get some minutes here.

Points of Interest

Schalke have drawn all three games they have previously played in Turkey. The German side faced Galatasaray in the round of 16 in 2013 and were knocked out over two legs.
