Game Report

Highlights

Romelu Lukaku scored twice as Inter Milan secured a crucial victory at Napoli. The Nerazzurri ruthlessly punished the home side for some poor defensive mistakes.

Detail

Napoli were without several recognised centre-backs so Giovanni Di Lorenzo started in the heart of defence. Nightmare start for the full-back who slipped - allowing Lukaku to power through on goal and score.

The hosts enjoyed a lot of possession but it was Inter who were more effective on the counter-attack. Lukaku got clear again and fired a shot which Alex Meret fumbled into his own net.

The Partenopei got themselves back into the game with a familiar play. Piotr Zielinski's diagonal pass picked out the run of Jose Callejon on the right and he crossed for Arkadiusz Milik to tap in.

Yet another howler at the back would curtail a potential Napoli comeback. Kostas Manolas tried to cut out Matias Vecino's cross but instead laid it perfectly into the path of Lautaro Martinez to score.

Inter sat back on their lead in the closing stages. Lorenzo Insigne struck a free-kick against the bar and Samir Handanovic made a smart save from Zielinski.

Summary

Napoli played well for large periods of the game but let themselves down with individual errors at the back. Inter Milan capitalised on them and their strikers continue to fire.
