Game Report

Highlights

Derby handed boss Frank Lampard a much-needed lift as they easily brushed aside Ipswich 2-0. The Rams scored two second half goals from Joe Ledley and Tom Lawrence to earn a first league win since the opening day. But the Tractor Boys have now failed to win any of their five games under Paul Hurst in either league or cup competition.

Detail

After two straight league defeats, Frank Lampard made changes to his Derby side as Craig Forsyth, George Evans, Mason Bennett and Dave Nugent all started. For Ipswich, Tayo Edun was suspended so Grant Ward returned to their starting eleven.

The first half was poor quality with Nugent having the best chance as he missed the target. Derby were not helped by a serious looking injury to George Evans with Ledley his replacement.

Ipswich do not look threatening at all in attack and had another difficult night in front of goal with Grant Ward's deflected effort the closest they came.

The Rams eventually took the lead on 57 minutes as Ledley punished some poor Ipswich defending as he collected a loose ball before unleashing a fine 25-yarder.

Nine minutes later and Lawrence put the game beyond doubt with a superb free kick from distance that beat Bartosz Bialkowski.

Summary

Frank Lampard and his side really needed this first home win of the season. It was a patient display with Derby still finding their stride this term. Ipswich were poor and confidence really is low around Portman Road at the moment. They need to find a solution especially in attack.
