Nottingham Forest claimed a 1-0 East Midlands derby win over Derby, a result that could potentially reignite their promotion hopes. Yohan Benalouane scored the only goal of the game in the opening stages as Forest moved to 8th and three points from the play-offs. Derby are one point and one place better off.

Forest were without Lewis Grabban so Ben Watson started in a more defensive-looking line-up. Duane Holmes and Andy King both started in Derby's midfield.

It was the perfect start for Forest as Benalouane scored his first Forest goal after just 74 seconds as Derby failed to clear Joe Lolley's free kick.

Derby should have levelled with Martyn Waghorn missed a great chance from a one-on-one position.

But other than that Forest were in control and rewarded for a strong defensive showing where Watson and Jack Colback both impressed in defensive midfield roles. Ryan Yates and Daryl Murphy both had good chances to give Forest an even bigger win.

A fine performance from Forest who will feel they are now back on track. It was a huge result for Martin O'Neill. A bit of a wake up call for Frank Lampard and Derby who now have plenty of work to do if they are to make the play-offs.
