Game Report

Highlights

A sublime piece of skill from full-back Brad Halliday led to the last-gasp equaliser which rescued a point for Doncaster Rovers in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland. The visitors looked to be escaping the Keepmoat Stadium with the points courtesy of midfielder Grant Leadbitter's stunning strike but Halliday provided the assist for striker Fejiri Okenabirhie to prod home a stoppage time leveller.

Detail

Darren Moore returned to the Doncaster Rovers dugout following a period of self-isolation and handed a full debut to goalkeeper Joe Lumley, who joined on a 7-day emergency loan from Queens Park Rangers.

He was rarely troubled on a quiet debut but was beaten just before half-time when Leadbitter unleashed an unstoppable 25-yard drive which screamed into the top corner of the net.

Phil Parkinson was happy to defend the lead in the second half; putting men behind the ball and inviting Rovers to try their luck from distance. They didn't have much of that although midfielder Matt Smith did go close.

The game was into time added-on when Halliday flicked the ball with the back of his heel to bamboozle defender Tom Flanagan and then squared for Okenabirhie, who poked home at the second attempt.

Summary

Parkinson described the equaliser as a cruel blow but it might not have happened if his side had been a bit more adventurous. Moore will be looking to get back to work on the training ground following his enforced absence.
