In Brief

In full control of group, but combination of hectic schedule and many injuries means fatigue major factor. Salah had COVID, but might be involved. Van Dijk amongst absentees. Also Henderson, Keita and Thiago amongst those deemed doubtful.

Looking Back

Liverpool defied the odds to keep clean sheet when hosting Leicester on Sunday for what was impressive 3:0 league win in the end. Reds forced to use patched up squad in this match, but those involved played very well.

Reds not seriously challenged in Champions League group so far, 9 points out of 9 and 3 consecutive clean sheets. In last round hammered Atalanta 5:0 away after Jota recorded hat-trick.

Looking Ahead

Coach Klopp has badly crippled squad right now – pair of starting centre-backs Van Dijk-Gomez sidelined; main right-back Alexander-Arnold also out + Salah had COVID and spent last 2 weeks in isolation in Egypt, before returning to England only on Monday evening after negative test. He could feature.

Added to that are many problems in heart of midfield. All of Henderson, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaqiri and Thiago nurse problems and squad really stripped to bare bone right now.

Youngster Jones could start in midfield as result of all that, with at least 1-2 of those deemed doubtful also possibly rushed back. Alternative is to use Jota in deeper role.

Manager Comments

On Mo Salah's situation: “The test was negative - all the tests were negative – so, if nothing changed since yesterday, he is available. Now we have to see what we do with that because he was quarantined until three days ago.”

On all other injury issues: "All the rest, no news. One looks closer, the other one looks not that close, so that’s how the situation is and we’ll see who is available."

In Brief

Held to an away scoreless draw by Spezia. Travel to Liverpool without Pasalic, Depaoli, Malinovskyi, Caldara and Sutalo. Djimsiti, Hateboer, Muriel and Mojica should be fine.

Looking Back

Were put under some pressure by Spezia right at the start but then took command of the operations. Were not particularly dangerous in the first half but created several dangers after the break, lacking the finishing touch.

Ilicic is still a pale image of the player admired in the past. Gomez was not bright enough. Pasalic came on and missed 2 chances at the end. Gosens set his foot in all the dangers created. Romero dominated Nzola physically.

Looking Ahead

Just 1 win out of the last 6 overall. Failed to score in 2 out of the last 3 - while they had scored in all the previous games. Will be travelling to Liverpool, having won 4 and lost 1 on the road, with 15 goals scored and 8 conceded overall, all competitions considered.

Have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 1 in the previous rounds of the competition.

Caldara is out. Mojica, Muriel, Hateboer and Djimsiti all failed to play last time out but should have only been rested. Depaoli picked up a problem at the weekend and is unavailable such as Pasalic.

Malinovskyi has been dealing with Covid 19.

Sutalo is ineligible.

One between Muriel and Ilicic should start up-front. Romero represents the alternative to Palomino at the back.

Due to a delay of their flight, will not be able to hold the last training before the match.

Points of Interest

This is the first time ever they travel to Liverpool. However, they travelled to England twice and they won 1 and lost 1, with 6 goals scored and 6 conceded overall.

Manager Comments

We, especially in defense, have been very careful. We built several dangerous situations, but we didn't manage to score. Technically it wasn't a good performance, but the team did theirs.

November is your black month in your career. "I don't know, obviously there is something repeating itself. This year is completely different, as I said before we started in October and I would have expected it later this black month".

It is clear that compared to the match in Bergamo we should be better, we must not make the mistakes that led to such a broad and clear result. We know their value, we have the confidence to be able to give less obvious situations like in the first leg match.

Set pieces have always been your strength. "There have been periods in which we have exploited these situations well, but this statistic changes: sometimes there are periods in which you do it less, we will try to better treat set piece situations because they weigh a lot, we must undoubtedly improve in this respect ".
