Football Season Review

№12: Dinamo Moscow

Dinamo Moscow started the season with the ambitions of staying further clear of the drop zone and playing some more expansive and entertaining football. Yet it was clear from the start that the stoas still hd some major limitations and the lack of any real talent in attack meant that Dmitri Khkhlov had to prioritise and player a cautious style of football. The team in Blue and White proved hard to beat early in the season, losing once in the opening seven games, but they also found it very hard to score goals and were relying too much on their defence and keeper to get points in the bag. Memorable results early in the season included a draw at champions Lokomotiv Moscow and a narrow success over leaders Zenit but the team never really found a head of steam and struggled to get a real cushion off the bottom four, despite not being really in danger. Evgeni Lutsenko was as usual a reliable presence in attack while Joaozinho proved a fine addition on the wing. Yet, the team did not really have any other players to make a difference in attack while at the ack the emergence of the impressive centre-back Roman Evgenyev was a positive. Nothing really changed in the spring in terms of outlook and results and Dinamo still did what was required without really excelling. They actually mustered just the one win from their final 12 league games but got a number of draws during that run and were able to see off the danger and stay up relatively comfortably.

Player of the Season: Joaozinho Santos
