Finished only 9th but showed promise in the 2nd half of the season. Ended up with the best attack outside the Big 4. Scored 36 goals in the 22 rounds. German striker Shekiera Martinez won the Rising Star award for her 10 goals in 12 WSL appearances. She spent the opening 10 rounds on loan at Freiburg but after her winter return she was unstoppable. West Ham didn’t lose any major names in the summer. Li’s loan ended and experienced CM Mewis took a paternity leave at least until January (gave birth in March). Those are no major losses though. The most notable new signings so far are that of experienced Japanese defender Endo and the promising young talent from Lyon B Leila Wandeler. Developing her with many appearances off the bench seems to be the plan for this season. Especially, considering that the one area West Ham lack depth is the midfield. Have only 4 typical CMs on the roster right now. The fans and her teammates can’t wait to see what heights young striker Martinez could reach in a full season as a Hammer. Her efforts in attack will be supported by experienced Ueki and Asseyi. Expected to be among the top 6 attacks yet again this season. Coach Rehanne Skinner, this will be her 3rd season in charge, favours formations with wing-back and 3 up front. She has the right players to continue using mostly such type of formations.
