Football Season Review

№8: Altach

After delivering survival in 2018/19 in what was supposed to be a short-term appointment, Dutchman Alex Pastoor was convinced by the club board to sign a longer-term deal and show what he can do over an entire season. The early signs were not that encouraging, as the Altachers stayed true to Pastoor's attacking principles but were often found lacking at the back and struggled to deliver the results that they were hoping for. Altach even found themselves battling to stay clear of the bottom places in the early stages of the season, but things did click after a while and they spent the later stages of the regular season battling for a place in the top half. They were ultimately unsuccessful in this pursuit and ended second in the Relegation Group, therefore setting up a play-off semi-final clash with Austria, which they lost. All in all, a definite improvement compared to last season, given that they managed to stay well clear of danger this time around. But their results were not exactly as good as they hoped for following their good form at the end of the previous campaign. Still, Pastoor has got Altach playing the most eye-catching brand of football that they have played in over a decade and will almost certainly be asked to stay on. However, his home-sickness a year ago was well-documented and it remains to be seen if it will get the better of him now.
