Inter Turku failed to get anywhere near their second place from 2019 in the last 4 seasons. The 2023 campaign was another difficult one. Inter Turku were lucky to sneak into Play-off I despite a mediocre regular season. They never moved up from the sixth spot though and the campaign ended without any major excitement. For the third winter running the ownership decided to change managers in the winter. After Honka’s bankruptcy the impressive manager of Honka Vesa Vasara was free for the taking and he is now the new head coach of Inter. Vasara used his connections with players and quickly added to the squad his two main inner midfielders from Honka – Krebs and Jensen. The duo are seen as direct replacements for Inter’s stars in that zone from last season Jyry and Forsell (both decided to leave this winter). Vasara preaches open and attacking football so a much more adventurous approach from Inter Turku in 2024 can be expected. Striker Smith scored 8 goals in his first year in Finland. This season he’s expected to get to double digits if Inter are more aggressive. The main concern seems to be on goal. The long-serving Walter Viitala left the club. Inter seem happy to trust his backup for the last few seasons Eetu Huuhtanen as their new number one. Huuhtanen has limited experience as a regular though, plus he’s only 21-years-old. Inter added 2 other goalies to their ranks but they are both only age 17, so right now for that position all that is available are 3 teenagers.
