After being relegated in the summer of 2022, Granada maintained a very competitive squad with the intention of coming straight back up. A slow start under Aitor Karanka saw Paco Lopez brought in and they were excellent from there, especially at home as they didn’t lose a home match, winning 17 of 21. That saw them become champions. It helped Granada that they had the second division’s top scorer, Myrto Uzuni, who netted 23 of Granada’s 55 goals. They didn’t lose any of the 17 games in which the striker netted at least once, registering 15 victories and two draws. It’s good news, then, that Uzuni is set to stay for Granada’s 2023/24 campaign. The priority in the off-season has been to keep the promotion-winning side together as much as possible, so the focus has been on converting loans into permanent deals where possible. It’ll be a quite different picture back in the first division, but Granada will look to lean on their excellent attack this season and will hope that Uzuni can shine in what will be his first experience in a top European league. Of the newly promoted sides, Granada are the one with the fewest weaknesses, which makes sense since they come up as second division champions. Their main weakness will simply be the lack of quality in their squad compared to the more established LaLiga clubs.
