Since returning to the Serie A in 2019/2020, Hellas Verona have steadily cemented their place in the top 10. After two positive campaigns with Juric at the helm and a short-lived disastrous stint with Di Francesco, last season they hired Igor Tudor and the choice turned out to be a wise one once again. They were never involved in the fight for survival and, had they been less fragile defensively, they conceded 59 goals, they could have done better than a 9th-place finish. Unfortunately for them, Tudor left the club after the end of the campaign, attracted by a bigger European club like Olympique Marseille. Thus, the management hired Gabriele Cioffi, who had an outstanding debut at Udinese. It has to be seen what squad Cioffi will have at his disposal, though, since some key players left, attacking midfielder Caprari (12 goals and 7 assists last season) and centre-back Casale, who had an outstanding first Serie A season, and more might be quitting, such as Simeone (17 goals and 6 assists), who was acquired from Cagliari for good in order to be sold. Hellas Verona also let go of talented Cancellieri, who only had a few opportunities to show his skills, while the likes of Sutalo and Depaolo returned to their parent clubs. In terms of new arrivals, Hellas Verona mainly strengthened their attack with Djuric and Henry, who had positive seasons at Salernitana and Venezia respectively, while Doig from Hibernian could in the long run become a useful addition on the left flank. Magnani, returning after an unimpressive loan at Sampdoria, could represent an alternative for the back 3. Hellas Verona are still looking for a defender, a winger and a central midfielder, especially considering that Veloso is not getting any younger and Ilic is attracting several offers.

Target

Hellas Verona should reach safety with some ease but a top 10 finish might be too much for them, this time around.
