Paris FC are in Ligue 1 for the first time, joining their more illustrious neighbours PSG. Although the side that only achieved promotion via the playoffs, they have arrived with tremendous ambition. The capital side are spending with the intention of establishing themselves in the middle of the Ligue 1 table. They have made an eye-catching signing in the form of Moses Simon from Nantes, and they are ready to splash out to sign another high-quality attacker in the form of Matthis Abline from the same club. Already Paris have Ligue 1 experience in the form of Jean-Philippe Krasso and Pierre-Yves Hamel in attack. These players will give them a very strong offensive base that will be supplemented by the underrated Mathieu Cafaro on the wing. In the heart of the park, there is a good balance between youth and experience, creativity and pragmatism. It is not an area that Paris have strengthened, but clearly it is not an area where they feel they need surgery. At that back, meanwhile, additions have been made. Thibault De Smet’s loan has been made permanent, yet the most eye-catching arriving is that of Porto star Otavio. The 23-year-old Brazilian will be expected to star given the money he has arrived for. There will be significant onus on him, yet there is good experience in this area for Paris. Although Stephane Gilli’s side have not recruited heavily, they have sought to strengthen with high-quality arrivals and have done this in key areas of the field. They are banking on these players delivering – and if they can’t, those who got them promoted last season to be capable of doing a good job.
