Difficult to give an overall judgement of Vitesse's season given the suspension. Their goal was to enter the play-offs and at the moment of suspension were in the top eight. However, in the Europa League preliminary round they were classified in 5th. It was a troubled season that saw three coaches take charge. They started with the exciting Leonid Slutsky and at the beginning everything seemed perfect - 23 points in the first 10 rounds (all-time record for the club!). But then came 5 consecutive defeats that led to his resignation. In his place for a month was youth coach Joseph Oosting who, after the winter break, was replaced by Edward Sturing. Neither left a good impression, so that for the 2020-2021 season the club appointed former Austria Wien coach Thomas Letsch. The German coach will have a difficult task being at an ambitious club like Vitesse and not knowing Eredivisie. As for the squad, their defence still seems to be competitive thanks to the signings of Maximilian Wittek and Jacob Rasmussen. In midfield they should add a few other good players to the already excellent Matus Bero and Riechedly Bazoer. However, the biggest concerns stem from the attack, where the team seems to have clearly been weakened. The two top scorers, Tim Matavz (12 goals the past season) and Bryan Linssen (14) left. At the moment they have been replaced by Armando Broja and Loïs Openda, youngsters with high hopes but totally inexperienced.
