Wolves dramatically missed out on Europa League qualification on the final day of last season. Considering that for long Santo’s men were major top 4 contenders this was a very bitter pill to swallow. So far things had been very quiet during the off-season, but rumours of possible departure of star striker Jimenez are intensifying, especially after 18-year-old striker Fabio Silva was signed for large fee from Porto right before the start of the new season. Wolves will definitely lose some of their regulars soon and it’s yet to be seen how they will replace them. Right now the squad is pretty much the same as last season, apart from departed wing-back Doherty, so the tactics will be similar too. Variations of 3-5-2 and 3-4-3 will be the main formations in use, with signed in January Podence expected to be playing a lot more minutes this term. Also explosive Adama Traore expected to take up Doherty’s role as wing-back. Santo’s clear game plan and the fact that all of his players know exactly what their tasks are on the pitch are amongst the main strengths of the team. Wolves are playing like proper tightknit squad and they are always very hard to defeat. Continue to have an alarmingly small squad, which brings serious challenge for the coming much more congested campaign. Just 1-2 serious injuries to important players would be enough to seriously unsettle the strength of the squad, but it seems unlikely the number of players will be increased much with Wolves in a bit of a financial bother right now.

Won’t be distracted by Europe this term and the aim is to get back into the top 6. This is an achievable goal, but the squad is small and with the schedule congested the task will be hard. Still should have no problems staying in the top 10.
