Young Boys are coming off a superb season which saw them do what started to seem impossible and took the Swiss title off Basel. Things would have been even better had they not lost the Swiss Cup final to Zurich but, overall, the Berners will be delighted with how they have won. What hurt the Berners far more than the cup final defeat, however, was the fact that they were unable to keep hold of their title-winning manager Adi Hutter, who was tempted away by German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt. Young Boys had a huge hole to fill following Hutter's departure and decided to make a brave move by bringing in Gerardo Seoane, who did superbly well with Luzern in the second half of the previous season, but has no other senior managerial experience outside his brief time with the Blues. Seaone is, like Hutter, a fan of attacking football, and will be working with a squad a touch stronger than the one his predecessor had available, as the Berners keep hold of all of their important players, while bringing in some promising signings, such as Sandro Lauper, Ulisses Garcia and Mohamed Camara. The reigning champions definitely still have a very strong squad but, with an enforced managerial change over the summer and Basel being determined to win the title back, are set for a very demanding title defence.

Target

Their goal will be to retain the title, but the previous season still seems as a bit of an outlier in the grand scheme of things and they are widely seen as second favourites to win the league, with Basel once again being the team to beat.
