Football Season Review

№10: Altach

Lack of money meant that Altach had to be creative on the transfer market last summer and most of the new signings made lacked experience. This the main reason why slow start to the campaign was suffered – (W2 D2 L10). The away form was particularly poor during the regular season with Altach losing 8 of their first 9 games on the road. Combination of very poor defending and toothless forward actions put Altach in serious trouble come mid-February and this was when coach Pastoor was sacked. He was immediately replaced by experienced Damir Canadi and the new boss changed the fortunes fast. The main change after Canadi took charge was the much better defending, Altach kept 4 clean sheets in the first 7 rounds under Canadi, able to keep just 2 in the opening 18 games of the season. Come play-off time Canadi also rejuvenated the forward line and after going 22 rounds without a goal Maderner ended the campaign on a high. In the end run of 3 wins in the first 4 games under Canadi + only 3 defeats in the 10 play-offs games proved enough to see Altach securing safety with 2 games to spare. Winter signings Subotic and Haudum helped a lot for the improved results in 2021, but the one player that kept his displays at high level all season was versatile Fischer. He was used in 4 different positions throughout the campaign and he did well in all. Canadi expected to use his connections at the top clubs to bring in some talented youngsters on loan this summer and under his expert guidance Altach are hoping for much better next season.
