Football Season Review

№9: Brentford

Brentford fans will certainly have mixed feelings regarding Uwe Rosler's first season in charge. It was a season that saw Brentford showing two completely different faces in the first and second half of it - in the first half of the season, they were one of the best away sides in the league, but couldn't win at home, only for that trend to be completely reversed in the new year. Rosler certainly deserves praise for a number of things - his side lost key striker Charlie MacDonald early in the season and also lost Gary Alexander somewhat suddenly in the second half of the season, and both times, the former Manchester City man managed to help his side recover and continue performing despite both players being their main source of goals when leaving the club. Rosler also utilized the loan market with great results, using his contacts from his time in the Premier League to get in a number of trainees on loans from top flight clubs, and Brentford continued pushing for promotion each and every time after it looked that their bid fell of the rails for good. Eventually, it all came down to the final few games, and the Bees will look back at their away game at Stevenage as the reason for their failure, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to the side that eventually finished sixth after missing two penalties while the score was still 0-0. Despite the disappointment, there will certainly also be optimism going into the new season, and if the Bees can get a 20 goals a season striker during the summer, they will be strong candidates for promotion next term.
