Football Season Review

№17: Yeovil Town

It was a case of more of the same for Yeovil this season - the Glovers had a campaign that was very similar to the one they had last term up to one point, as they played some decent football, often struggled to get the results they deserved due to trying to play too pretty, and were hovering narrowly above the drop zone. However, a run of only two wins in 15 games on the turn of the year made the board opt for a change - Gary Johnson was signed in a bid to try and make the club more consistent, while Terry Skiverton had to settle for a role of being his assistant. Given Johnson's reputation and previous experience with the club, one would've certainly expected his spell with the club to be a success, but not even the biggest optimists could've foreseen the size of Johnson's immediate impact: the Glovers collected 16 points from his first five home games in charge and an away win over rivals Wycombe to go with it; a run of results that put the Glovers comfortably outside of the relegation zone, and they never looked back in the remainder of the season, securing their survival with three games to spare. There are a lot of question marks regarding what the squad will look like next season, as only four players don't have their contracts expiring in the summer, with the biggest battle the Glovers are facing being the one to keep hold of top scorer Andrew Williams, who's fantastic form over the course of the season attracted interest from clubs around the country.
