Football Season Review

№10: Chelsea

This season was a total and utter disaster for Chelsea. Having lifted the title in 2014/2015, the Blues were expected to be once again challenging at the top of the table and were looking very well placed to be champions two seasons in a row. However, what actually followed was the worst Premier League title defence in history. Jose Mourinho was sacked in December with the team just one point clear of the relegation zone and with nine defeats in sixteen games. Guus Hiddink was quickly appointed on a temporary basis until the end of the season. Results improved, but Chelsea remained a mere shadow of the team that were so good in the previous season. Come the end of the season they finished an uninspiring tenth in the table. Antonio Conte will be in charge for next season and it remains to be seen just how many of the current squad will be kept on - they practically all under performed this season. Eden Hazard finished the season strongly, but prior to that was not even average. Willian showed effort and the correct attitude for most of the season, while the majority of the other players were inconsistent at best.
