Football Season Review

№12: EC Bahia

Bahia was one of those typical underdogs in the Serie A this season. The Bahia team managed to seal promotion to the first tier of Brazilian football by claiming the fourth spot in the Serie B and the expectations weren't that high as a result. The relegation pressure remained a factor during the 38 weeks of the season, which resulted in several changes in the staff. This wasn't an ideal situation at all as four coaches trained Bahia during the season. Guto Ferrreira, Jorginho, Preto Casagrande and Paulo Carpegiani trained this club this campaign and they somehow managed to prevent the drop back to the Serie B. This was actually a more than decent achievement. Bahia slipped into the danger zone on more than one occasion, but they showed their strength at exactly the right time, near the end of the season, to secure their Serie A spot for another campaign. Edigar Junio became one of the key figures during the final weeks of the season. The striker helped his club by bagging eight goals in the last ten matches, which gave this team a tremendous boost. Bahia only recorded three defeats in the last fourteen matches, which even created a seven point gap with the sixteenth position. The twelfth spot is definitely something to be proud of and the fans will be satisfied with this outcome as well.
