Football Season Review

№14: FC Den Bosch

FC Den Bosch played in the Eredivisie in the 2004/2005 season, but the results later on weren't that impressive at all. The club announced the ambitions from time to time, but FC Den Bosch just can't seem to bounce back to the Eredivisie. The fourth spot in 2014 was actually quite satisfying, but the crisis later on hit the club hard. A sixteenth and seventeenth spot didn't satisfy the fans at all and the mission at the start of this season wasn't an easy one. FC Den Bosch announced the play-off ambitions again as usual, but the quality just wasn't there to compete for a top ten finish. Wiljan Vloet's return to Den Bosch gave the club a boost, but the former Sparta Rotterdam and ADO Den Haag manager failed to create the momentum and to push the performances to a higher level. The lack of consistency was the main reason for this disappointing campaign. The Den Bosch side showed their qualities when they managed to stay unbeaten for seven matches in a row, but there were disastrous runs as well without any victories. The motivation was still there to push for the play-offs during the season, but this outfit failed to perform at the right moments. They recorded impressive home wins over NAC Breda and MVV Maastricht for instance, but they dropped the points in must-win away games against Achilles '29 (2-1) and Jong FC Utrecht (5-0). The lack of a pure goal scorer remained a problem as well. Romero Regales bagged eight goals, but the other strikers simply failed to impress. Team captain Niek Vossebelt, a defensive midfielder, was the second one on the top scorers list with five goals and this shows the main problem. FC Den Bosch definitely showed the potential from time to time, but the overall form just wasn't good enough to push for promotion, which was rather disappointing for the fans.
