Football Season Review

№15: TOP Oss

The expectations at the start of the season weren't that high in Oss. This club failed to claim a top seven position in the past and a push for promotion to the Eredivisie already seemed like a mission impossible at the start of the campaign. FC Oss did manage to claim a play-off spot back in 2015 though and that hope was there again back in August, but the lack of results wasted that dream early on. Manager Francois Gesthuizen eventually had to leave the club after the winter break and Klaas Wels wasn't able to turn the form around, which resulted in the fifteenth spot. FC Oss even entered the danger some point, but five wins in a row near the end of 2016 saved them. The attractiveness was there though, which was one of the positive points this season. FC Oss mainly focused on the attack in their matches, even against better opponents, which resulted in spectacular performances. FC Oss even managed to bag 67 goals, which was better than top five teams like Jong PSV and NAC Breda, but they also conceded 95 goals. This was the worst statistic of the league as the relegated Achilles '29 side conceded 92 goals. The biggest sensation however was Tom Boere. The striker came over from FC Eindhoven at the start of the season as he failed to claim a regular starting spot in the Jan Louwers Stadium, but he somehow managed to show his form in Oss from the first match on. FC Oss failed to claim results in most games, but Boere showed his class nevertheless, which resulted in 33 goals in 38 appearances. He's now set to leave the club as a result and finding a suitable replacement will be extremely difficult.
