Football Season Review

№7: Zurich

Long gone are the days in which Zurich were battling for domestic glory, with their fans getting somewhat used to mediocrity over the recent years. Ludovic Magnin has been underperforming as their manager for a while, but only once during the entire course of the season did his position come under major public pressure. This was midway through the first half of the season, but a decent run of results was enough for him to keep his job. Zurich did not have many real ups and downs over the course of the campaign - they had only a couple of truly impressive displays in which they showcased their real potential, but their genuinely good performances were few and far between and they rarely looked like breaking into the European places. The coronavirus pandemic has arguably helped Magnin keep his job, with the club unwilling to make any remotely risky moves given all the uncertainty surrounding it. Magnin looks set to remain in charge going into the new season but the overall feeling is that the Zurichers have been stagnating for a while. However, it's difficult to see where something that changes their current situation will come from.
