Football Season Review

№11: Hoffenheim

Nothing appeared to go Hoffenheim’s way, particularly in the latter part of the season. Hoff were never really a part of the bottom group but it tended to be one step forward and two back nevertheless. Following the departure of stars last season such as Demba Ba and Obasi, they lost their top striker Ibisevic who moved to Stuttgart. On the other hand, Ryan Babel never really lived up to expectations since moving from England. With just 5 goals in 46 appearances, the former Liverpool striker has no chance of filling Ibisevic’s boots. Leverkusen striker Derdiyok could be on his way to Hoffenheim in which case there is bound to be more firepower up front. It looks as if Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese will likewise be joining the club although most of their problems would appear to be outfield. Hoffenheim appeared to improve following the appointment of a new team coach but their home form was in particular poor throughout the season. Their most consistent player was Salihovic who continually displayed his expertise from set pieces but that apart, the midfielder was also their main inspiration in times of need.

Player of the Season: Sejad Salihovic
