Football Season Review

Champions: Bochum

Bochum produced a memorable campaign to claim the title and win promotion back to the Bundesliga for the first time since 2010. Under the guidance of coach Thomas Reis, Bochum played some good attacking football, they were consistent throughout and were crowned Champions on the final day after victory over Sandhausen. Bochum lost 9 times over the course of the season and, although surprisingly high for league champions, they responded with a win on each occasion after and drew only 4 times. At home they excelled winning 12 of their 17 matches. They were solid defensively there too, conceding just 16 times.  There were strong performers all across the pitch but Robert Zulj in particular stood out, the Austrian playmaker chipped in with 15 goals and 13 assists overall. Simon Zoller also had a good season in front of goal, while veteran midfielder Robert Tesche scored some important goals, especially towards the end of the campaign. Bochum have come a long way under Thomas Reis and it will be interesting to see how they fare in the top division. They will have to be shrewd in the transfer market and keeping hold of Zulj is a must.
