Football Season Review

№11: Nurnberg

It was another season where Nurnberg flattered to deceive, eventually finishing in 11th place, having said that, considerable improvements were made on the horror show of the previous campaign.  Young coach Robert Klauss had his work cut out to get the club firing again and it was anything but plain sailing early on, as they won just 1 of their first 7 games.  After a mini revival which saw them win 4 of the next 6, they again fell back into a slump, losing 6 of the following 8 matches. This wasn't helped by long-term injuries to the in-form Lohkemper and summer signing Kopke.  Klauss became under increasing pressure after a poor defeat at Sandhausen at the end of January but his side reacted well after and finished the season strongly.  The loan signing of Mats Moller Daehli gave them more creativity in midfield and the likes of Nurnberger, Geis and Krauss grew in confidence. Young talents Hack and Shuranov also chipped in with some important goals, while Schaffler was also clinical until injury cut short his season. It took time for Klauss to implement his ideas but he eventually got a tune out of his squad. There are still plenty of improvements to be made for next season but the club seems to be moving in the right direction.
