Football Season Review

№8: Moreirense FC

Not as good as last year, but great anyway. In fact, even better, as Moreirense had a consolidation season: Minhotos made a firm statement about their position at Primeira Liga for the years to come. After losing important players like Chiquinho, Arsénio, Jhonatan and coach Ivo Vieira, and after a questionable start, the fans started to think their team had been a one-year wonder. After 14 rounds, coach Campelo was gone. Ricardo Soares didn’t have a good impact: in fact, things got worse for a while, with just 1 point collected in the first 4 rounds. But the club was patient and was rewarded for it. Soares finally found the team’s balance, while January signings Gabrielzinho and Nuno Santos were very helpful. Bilel found his best football yet while replacing the injured Singh. The team was back at last year’s heights. Pasinato proved to be a worthy successor of Jhonatan in goal, while Rosic and Iago formed a solid duo at the back. The best unit was unquestionably the young midfielder Filipe Soares, surely one to look for a big move during the summer. The club seems very well organized; coach should remain and the squad is strong enough to cope with a couple of important departures: next season has everything to be a successful one, again.

Player of the Season: Filipe Soares
