Football Season Review

№9: Peterborough United

Peterborough are one of the biggest disappointments of the 2014/15 League One season, as they were expected to push for direct promotion going into the season, only to eventually end up missing out even on a play-off place. Their campaign has followed the pattern which they set in the 2013/14 season, as they started in a promising manner, only for things to gradually get worse as time elapsed. Things really started to turn sour for them in mid October, as they went on a horror run which saw them win only once in the league in three months. The injury suffered by star attacking midfielder Marcus Maddison had a lot to do with this crisis and, to make things worse, Maddison has failed to reach the dizzy heights from the first half of the season after recovering from his injury. One big difference between Peterborough's 2014/15 and 2013/14 seasons is that their chairman Darragh MacAnthony finally lost patience with Darren Ferguson, as he opted to part ways with the long-serving manager in late February. The Posh went on to have a brief revival under Ferguson's successor Dave Robertson, who was named their interim boss, and even broke into the top six at one point. However, things soon returned to normal, as they managed to win only once in their last ten games and duly missed out on a play-off place as a consequence. A summer of big changes seems to be on the cards for the Posh - they are yet to resolve their managerial situation, while major changes in playing personnel are also likely, with Player of the Season Joe Newell and club captain Jack Payne being among those who have been transfer listed by the club.
