Football Season Review

Champions: Rangers

An invincible league season saw Rangers win every game at home and go unbeaten in the league. If it were not for some individually disappointing cup games, this could have been a perfect campaign. With 7 goals and a clean sweep of wins in the first 3 games, Rangers were clearly on a high. They dropped points only twice before the turn of the year, against Livingston and Hibernian, while enjoying a crushing 8-0 win over Hamilton. Tavernier was a standout performer throughout the campaign. Aribo and Davis were both excellent in midfield, offering a strong core. Rangers sometimes struggled to bring in youth players to the first team, although some prospects like King appeared at the end of the campaign. The team showed excellent depth throughout the campaign, dealing well with injuries in key positions when they came up. The likes of Patterson, Wright and Stewart all offered good cover when needed. Two COVID breaches from several squad players were disappointing, but the club dealt with it well, using their squad depth to cover and taking swift action against offenders. Cup competitions came to disappointing ends. Fell to St Mirren in the League Cup quarter finals and St Johnstone at the same stage. Could have advanced further in Europe after a great campaign was ended in defeat to Slavia Prague. Another unbeaten season would be a tough ask, but Rangers will be title favourites with rivals Celtic still in turmoil.

Player of the Season: James Tavernier
