Football Season Review

№7: Sivasspor

Sivas did a great job by finishing the season in the 7th place on their comeback to the Super League. They could have finished among the top five places, had they collected more points on the road. In other words, they should have recorded longer winning streaks than just two victories during the season. The season beginning was not good for them as they were inside the relegation zone after collecting only three points in the early four games. The biggest factor for that was the lack of efficiency from the new arrivals. Then they recovered and buit a great streak, during which they collected 13 points out of 15, with the help of a suitable schedule, but their away performances prevented them from keeping on doing well. In general, they were not good against the big teams of the league, but they managed to get some extra points against them at home. Especially, they did very well in front of their fans during the season’s 2nd part. Their only defeat was against Fenerbahce. Some key players contributed a lot to the team’s performance this season. Aroune Kone offered a great performance in his 1st Super League season and scored 13 goals. Besides him, midfielder Hakan Arslan scored most goals with 8 in his Super League career. However, Robinho was not able to make the expected impact. Except that, all keepers’ performances did not satisfy coach Samet Aybaba. Following this season’s success, there are high expectations for Sivas. The fans hope their team will fight for the European Cups zone or repeat the last performance at least next. It is known that the board are thinking about bringing a more assertive coach. If they do so, it means that they will probably build a stronger squad. If they manage to do it, it is possible to see them collecting more points than this season.
