Football Season Guide

It was a disappointing end to a season that promised so much for Edinburgh City; who lost out to Annan Athletic in a two-legged play-off semi-final. Manager James McDonaugh demanded the club back him in the transfer market last summer and it certainly paid off as striker Blair Henderson’s goals took them to the top of the table. It was an ever-increasing injury list which did for them in the end and they finished last season without just reward for their efforts. Nevertheless McDonaugh established the Citizens as a force to be reckoned with in League 2 and he hasn’t rested on his laurels either this summer, bringing in players with experience of higher divisions in Scotland. Striker Jonny Court and defender Chris Kane have both joined from East Fife whilst defender Callum Crane and midfielder Jordan Sinclair have signed deals. Undoubtedly the most important signing was Henderson, who notched an incredible 38 goals last season and will be looking to terrorise League 2 defences again this time around. Most of last season’s regulars have also signed up for another season. If McDonaugh can keep his best players on the pitch and out of the treatment room they look a good bet to go one better this season.
