A season spent in mid-table last season. There was uncertainty at the club after manager Joey Barton’s departure in January but the experienced Simon Grayson took over and steadied the ship. There has been a clear out of the squad over the close season. Some high wage earners have left. Significant departures include ever-present centre-back Connolly, dangerous winger Burns and main striker Vassell. The players brought in are a mix of youth and experience. Clarke, Halliday and Pilkington are individuals with plenty of EFL appearances to their name. Up front Edmondson and Morton failed to really impress during loan spells at Northampton and Lincoln respectively last season but they are young players with potential to improve. The Cod Army are currently under a transfer embargo which means they are not allowed to pay transfer fees for players. This has not restricted Town as they are not currently prepared to pay fees for players. Fleetwood were largely difficult to beat under Grayson last season. Their results did tail off towards the end of the campaign as they lost six of their last 10 matches. They did at times struggle for goals last season and finished as the fourth lowest scorers in the division but conversely they only conceded 46 goals in the 46 league games (the joint fourth lowest total).

Target

Mid-table. Should comfortably be clear of the relegation zone but with the current squad it is hard to see them significantly improving on last season’s 15th place finish.
