Poor early season form cost Gillingham last season as they finished outside the play-off places. Did build an excellent squad last season with plenty of their players impressing. It is unsurprising that goalkeeper Bonham and attacking midfielder Graham have been snapped up by Championship clubs. O’Connor and Cundy were also standout performers last campaign, they have returned to their parent clubs. They have so far managed to hang onto influential captain Kyle Dempsey and last season’s 17-goal top scorer Vadaine Oliver. The Gills recruitment has seen boss Steve Evans bring in several players with plenty of EFL experience. Some of whom have worked well under him before. Lee was on loan at Gillingham last season making 33 appearances. Young Watford loanee Phillips featured five times for the Hornets last season. Steve Evans is vastly experienced and has a direct way of playing which is always going to cause teams problems. Despite some significant departures, they have so far managed to hold onto several of their key assets. Have made some shrewd acquisitions, with players coming in that are more likely to adapt to the Gills style of play and hit the ground running. Could be short up front if Oliver leaves or gets injured. John Akinde provided good support for Oliver last season, but he has been made available for transfer.

Target

Will again be looking to challenge for the play-off places.
