Football Season Guide

Only two years after suffering relegation to the Serie B, Frosinone return to the top tier of the Italian football having achieved promotion through the playoffs. In the previous season, they had come close to making it back to the Serie A but the playoffs had not been as lucky for them. For their second historical Serie A season, Frosinone tried to maintain the backbone of the squad that reached promotion while adding some quality and experience in every department. Moreover, they confirmed coach Moreno Longo at the helm of the team. Longo is a former Torino and Chievo Verona defender, who had just two major experiences as a head coach in Serie B, with Pro Vercelli, which he led to salvation, and Frosinone themselves. He usually opts for a 3-5-2 formation but he also adopts a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-1-2 system when needed. In terms of departures, at the time of writing, Frosinone saw just a couple of players actually leaving: two expert veterans like Roberto Crivello and Alessandro Frara, who actually hanged up their boots. In terms of signings, first of all they took care of the goal, hiring Marco Sportiello, in need of a redemption from a hard season at Fiorentina, as the new keeper and a back-up in Francesco Bardi, but Simone Scuffet could also arrive from Udinese. In the defence, besides confirming Luka Krajnc into a more permanent deal, they added the promising Edoardo Goldaniga on loan from Sassuolo. His past season was plagued by injuries, though. Left-back Cristian Molinaro arrived from Torino but he hardly ever played in the recent past. According to the rumours, the experienced centre-back Danilo is also set to arrive from Udinese. In the midfield, the well-disciplined Emil Halfredsson also arrived from the Zebras from Friuli together with Lorenzo Crisetig, who almost never played at Bologna in the past campaign. As for the attack, Stipe Perica will be trying to remake his name after the poor past season at Udinese.
