After the major continental success in 2017, Grêmio seemed to want to specialize in Libertadores, Renato Portaluppi using an entire reserve team in many of domestic league matches. Still, Grêmio was a very competitive side in Série A and fought for the top places. The several early upsets in Libertadores may lead Grêmio to focus on the domestic league only. The team certainly has what it takes to join the race, specially after strikers Filipe Vizeu and Diego Tardelli arrivals to strengthen what was arguably last season’s weakest spot. With the best centre-halves partnership of the country, plenty of quality options for the middle and the two new strikers, the biggest issue will be related with Everton. It will be very hard to keep him in the next transfer window, but if Tricolores manage somehow to convince him to stay, Grêmio will definitely be a force. Grêmio will want to keep bringing new talent from the youth system. The likes of Jean Pyerre and Matheus Henrique are two of the most exciting young players in the league, already. Thaciano, Pepê, Thonny Anderson and Vico will all want to make a statement. Luan is having an ever worst spell in 2019 than last season; to save him from absolute decline will be a vital task for Renato. Grohe left the club and his reserve of last season is the new no. 1: does Paulo Victor have what it takes?

Target

If the club makes Série A as their priority for the season, Tricolores Gaúcho should be a contender for the title.
