Simon Weaver has long since established himself as a Harrogate Town hero and he will be looking for yet more success this time around. He begins his 13th season as manager of the Sulphurites and, having started in the National League North, the next aim is League One. Their first season in the Football League was a successful one, finishing comfortably in 17th place, and lifting the 2020 F.A. Trophy final after beating Concord Rangers at Wembley. Weaver might come across as one of football’s gentleman but he isn’t afraid to make changes when necessary and has made several additions this summer. Goalkeeper Mark Oxley will be No. 1 after joining from relegated Southend United, with goalkeeper James Belshaw moving on to Bristol Rovers. The most exciting signings come in attack with Daniel Orso having a remarkable end to last season with Maidenhead United and Luke Armstrong having won promotion back to the Football League with Hartlepool United. The key losses were expected with loanees Dan Jones and Josh McPake having returned to their parent clubs after impressing. Weaver does have a strong spine to rely on the likes of defender Will Smith, full-back Ryan Fallowfield and midfielders Josh Falkingham and George Thomson. The latter was outstanding in the second half of last season. Getting fans back into Wetherby Road and making it home again will be key if they are to challenge at the right end of League Two this season.
