Clem Morfuni declared Swindon Town fans have their club back following the transfer of shares from previous owner Lee Power. The last 12 months of Power’s ownership have seen the Club fall deeper into crisis, facing F.A. charges for breaching regulations on ownership and funding following relegation back to League Two. Morfuni inherits a Club under a transfer embargo after just 60% of June wages were paid to players and staff and a legal action from the local council for unpaid rent on the County Ground. He is under no illusions to the size of the task and has acted quickly by appointing Ben Chorley as Director of Football and Ben Garner as Head Coach. Garner was sacked as Bristol Rovers in November and inherits a skeleton squad of players. The situation is far from ideal. The only players to emerge from a desperate League One campaign were defender Akin Odimayo, midfielders Anthony Grant, Jack Payne and Scott Twine and striker Brett Pitman. Twine and Pitman have moved on this summer whilst the futures of Odimayo, Grant and Payne remain in the balance. Garner will be hoping to keep all of them but that seems unlikely at the time of writing. Garner faces a race against time to have a side ready for the opening day trip to Scunthorpe United and then to recruit a new squad of players before the transfer window closes at the end of August. The January transfer window will also be key if the Robins to ensure they retain their Football League status next May.
