Out

Motherwell enjoyed a fantastic season last time out. While they trailed firmly behind the Old Firm, they managed the coveted place as best of the rest. A defence built around Declan Gallagher helped Motherwell form a solid spine. Despite some off field controversy, with manager Steve Robinson facing legal trouble, the team kept a consistent line up with minimal changes. Tony Watt helped to improve the attacking line. He struggled for fitness but could be a key man in the coming season. The club have kept last season’s squad together with no major departures and several key additions. Motherwell will compete in Europe for the first time since 2014. While chances of progression largely depend on luck of the draw, a few wins would bring in serious cash and help future development.

Target

Retaining third place has to be the goal, though it will be tough in the face of improved opposition. Motherwell will also be looking towards progression in Europe.
