An extremely disappointing campaign last time out saw Aberdeen finish 10th, their worst position since 2003-2004. Big name signings failed to perform while the team were consistently weak up front and lacked creativity. A managerial change late on made little difference. New manager Goodwin has overhauled the squad in pre-season. Many older players and squad players have departed. High reputation players from outside the country have joined instead. Cape Verde striker Lopes and Macedonia forward Miovski could add much-needed pace and creativity. Promising youngsters Ramsay and Ferguson both departed, but their transfer fees provided funds for major improvements across the board. Signs in pre-season have been promising with three straight wins in the League Cup so far. The team should be hopeful of major improvements, but they will need to gel quickly to meet their potential. Players coming from abroad and settling into a new country may take a while to hit the ground running. The fans may turn if improvements aren’t made quickly. The major changes over summer mean the squad has had little time together. Goodwin is still trying to impose his style on the team and may need time to experiment. The squad may lack a little depth in defence in the event of injuries to key players.

Target

4th. Huge improvements are required, but a much-changed team needs to manage expectations.
