Football Season Guide

Another successful season saw Dundee United qualify for Europe. Using a young squad playing a technical style, they finished 4th, with one of the best defensive records in the season. Despite struggling in attack, they demonstrated strong tactical awareness to gain results against strong opposition. For a second season in a row, United have seen a successful manager depart over summer, with Courts opting to join a club in Hungary. Additionally, nine players have departed, though these are mostly minor squad members with the exception of main keeper Siegrist. New manager Jack Ross is highly experienced at this level. He has brought in several strong signings, including experienced Scotland forward Steven Fletcher. The return of midfielder Levitt after a successful loan spell is another huge boost. New keeper Birighitti is an interesting addition and will need to adapt quickly. United will need to balance European football with their league campaign. Their squad should be big enough to manage but new signings need to hit the ground running to fill key gaps. The team will rely on their defensive abilities and tactical awareness to win games. They have good depth at the back and lots of experience. United’s main weakness lies in their forward line. Last season’s top scorer Clark managed only 8 goals and the team scored less than a goal per game. New striker Fletcher will need to hit form quickly to make a change.
