Forest endured another turbulent season, finishing 16th under their fourth coach, Vitor Pereira, after also being led by Nuno, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche. Despite the turmoil, they finally managed to stay five points clear of relegation and reached the Europa League semi-finals. Pereira has parted ways with the club, who appointed former Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner ahead of next season. They have had a relatively quiet summer in terms of arrivals, with Xaver Schlager joining on a free to beef up the midfield and Ousmane Diomande signing to strengthen their defence. Anderson’s departure has left Forest needing more quality in midfield, with the England international having been one of their top performers last season. Yet, their tendency to make late moves in the transfer market means reinforcements may not arrive quickly. Glasner appears set to use his preferred 3-4-2-1, with Pereira having already laid the groundwork for the system last season. Morgan Gibbs-White has been their standout performer, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists in the league last season, while perhaps being unfortunate not to make England’s World Cup squad. Yet, their lack of quality options from the bench might be an area of concern. Forest boast a strong first XI, but that lack of squad depth might be exposed by accumulated fatigue of the starters down the stretch.
