Rangers might be the newly promoted side in the Scottish Premiership but after a four year spell in the lower leagues there is no doubt they are aiming to finally end Celtic's 5 year spell of dominance by wrestling the league title from their grasp. They strolled through the Championship last season with the league wrapped up by April and they even beat Celtic en route to the Scottish Cup final, a victory which ultimately resulted in the dismissal of Celtic manager Ronny Deila. It will no doubt be a big step up to instantly try and challenge for the title but manager Mark Warburton has made a few big name signings including Joey Barton from Burnley and Niko Kranjcar from New York Cosmos - two signings with a lot of Premiership experience and despite their age should still be in their prime. Some other experienced players with Premiership appearances include Clint Hill and Matt Gilks who can be expected to play more bit part roles this season but there's no doubt the squad has improved massively since last year and an impressive start in the League Cup has already seen them win four games without conceding a goal. A lot of dead wood in the squad has been moved on to make room for the new signings and there is a lot of confidence around Ibrox that they can make a push for their 55th league title, a world record.

Target

It's not often a newly promoted team would instantly try and win the league but that is what the Rangers fans expect and it's what they'll be hoping to achieve, however difficult it may seem.
