In their second season back in the Premiership, it was another campaign to forget for Rangers. Under Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty, the club managed to fall short in the race for second once again, despite initial hopes of a title challenge under both managers. That negative cloud however has been wiped away with the appointment of Steven Gerrard, who has been quick to quell any unrealistic targets ahead of the campaign. The new boss hasn't been shy in his recruitment drive either. The Ibrox side have brought in 10 new players and allowed 15 to depart - be that due to loan periods ending, being released from their contracts, or heading out on loan. Regardless, this is exactly the kind of overhaul the Rangers supporters demanded after last season. High earners such as Kenny Miller, Bruno Alves, Michael O'Halloran, and Carlos Pena have all departed - allowing Gerrard to splash wages on his own players. Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria have been brought in to add competition down the flanks, whilst a new-look defence will see Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic entrusted with shoring up their leaky back-line. Scott Arfield will look to rival Josh Windass in behind the striker, whilst Lassana Coulibaly may very well prove to be the midfield destroyer that Rangers have been missing. Umar Sadiq finally provides some striking competition for Alfredo Morelos - or indeed a partner. However, question marks remain over the Colombian's commitment to the cause at Ibrox. In the unconvincing Europa League disposal of Shkupi, Morelos fluffed some big chances and started to look more uninterested as the tie went on. Fans' anger towards him has increased, and the pressure is already on the 21-year-old to hit the ground running. Progress this season would be symbolised by a strong second, and potentially some closer results against Celtic. More hammerings to the Champions would incense the support, and thus a victory or two over Brendan Rodgers' men would be hugely desired.

Target

Finishing second ahead of Aberdeen and Hibernian is a must. However,a result or two against Celtic would truly symbolise some real progress. Winning the title is too optimistic at this stage.
